Occasional caretaker manager Bob Making spent most of his Boro career behind the scenes.
Formerly manager of Boreham Wood, he became Stevenage Borough's chief executive officer aged 46 in January 2000, giving up his job as an accountant at Dagenham Motors to replace the club's accountant, Ray Nathan.
At the time, chairman Phil Wallace said: "Bob and I have spoken in depth of my vision and plans for Boro, and his job is to drive those plans through on a day-to-day basis. This is an ambitious club and we must have dynamic, energetic football people running it. Bob's a talented business manager but he's also a football man with a deep knowledge of non-league football. Every ship needs a captain to make sure it stays on course and Bob will do that job admirably. He leads by example and his energy and enthusiasm will be a breath of fresh air at Boro. He'll be working to structured three and five year plans and will be responsible for everyone employed at the club."
