Higham Town 1
Stevenage Borough 3
League (United Counties League Division One)

Match report written by The Comet, 8th October 1980

STEVENAGE Borough took over top spot in the United Counties League Division I on goal difference following this good win over a useful Higham side on Saturday.

They included new keeper Ross Silverman (from Walden Rangers) in place of regular keeper Martyn Thompson. Thompson sustained a bad knee injury at Geddington last week and will require an operation.

It took Stevenage half an hour to settle, but once they did Danny DANCE volleyed them ahead from an angled cross. Borough went two up on the hour when Pete GITTINGS rifled in an unstoppable second shot for his ninth goal of the season.

Higham came back into the game and reduced arrears with a shot that was deflected past Silverman, but then substitute Tim Jolly - back after suspension - created the opening for Andy HUGHES to knock home Borough's third.
