Their bad run goes on with a home defeat
Stevenage Youth 0 Luton BC 2
THE Stevenage youth side could not snap out of their bad run when they met Luton BC on Saturday, and they lost two more valuable points to their Chiltern League challengers.
Athletic could not complain about this reversal. Though they had more of the play than their opponents, they never produced the fast, confident football of a few weeks ago, and again the chances they created went begging.
The visitors, on the other hand, had less of the play, but they neatly took the points with two goals scored by Steve TURNER, son of former Luton Town idol Gordon Turner.
It's ironic that Stevenage won the corresponding match at Luton, and in fact they have a 100 per cent away record in the league. But they have dropped five points out of 12 at home. These disappointing results at home seem to have sapped their confidence, and in this match they looked a very ordinary side. The ability and work-rate they showed in earlier displays seems to have deserted them.
Up front, passes went astray, and the shooting was off-target. The defence was less solid than usual, although in fairness the killer second goal came very late in the game after a determined and sustained fight.
The first goal came ten minutes into the second half. After this, the ball was cleared off the Luton line three times, and a confident penalty appeal for handling by a Luton defender was turned down.
