BORO CHECKED BY CHENECKS
ON Chenecks 2, Stevenage 2
STEVENAGE Borough dropped a UCL Division 1 point for the second successive Saturday when they were held 2-2 by reigning champions ON Chencks at Northampton.
It took the home side only two minutes to go ahead when THOMPSON hit a speculative 25-yarder that deceived his namesake in the Borough goal.
It wasn't until the 22nd minute that they got on terms, Trevor METCALFE netting his 19th of the season from Ward's cross.
Within two minutes Chenecks were ahead again. A hesitant Borough defence allowed a cross to reach SWAN on the far post to net easily.
The rest of the game really belonged to Stevenage, but again they found great difficulty in breaking down a packed defence.
They finally levelled matters in the 64th minute with a Jim DAINTREE penalty, after Dance had been brought down in full flight.
One of the brightest aspects for Borough was the solid debut of new central defender Neil Jeffrey, signed recently from Whitwell.
STEVENAGE: Thompson, Allinson, Downes, Jeffrey, Peterson, Jolly, Daintree, Gittings, Ward, Metcalfe, Dance. Sub: McGregor (not used).
