WEDNESDAY FOOTBALL CLUB
On Monday a public meeting was held in the Public Hall at which the Wednesday Football Club was formed. After some discussion it was decided to call the club by that name in preference to the "Early Closing," so that it should not be taken for the same organization as the cricket club which uses the latter name. The following officers were elected: Secretary, Mr H. H. Harding; captain, Mr D. Parry; vice-captain, Mr A. Wyatt; commitee, Messrs Buckingham, Culpin, Fayers, Hall, Morton, Payne, Savage, Stanley and Vear. It was decided to ask Mr James Flack to become president. The subscription is fixed at 2s for ordinary members. The colours are chocolate and amber stripes. The new club will be affiliated with the Herts FA and will play its matches on the Town Football Ground situated at the rear of Brook's Orchard and known as Seven Acre. It is hoped that the tradesmen of the town will support their shop assistants in the new venture both financially and by their presence at matches.
